2017 HAA Safety Conference

In support of our holistic safety culture, we are dedicating an entire day to focusing specifically on safety. There will be no flight operations on Friday, January 6. Instead all employees and students are encouraged to attend our 2017 Safety Conference where industry experts will speak about safety-related issues, including human factors, cockpit resource management, and regulatory compliance. The event begins at 8:30am at Sonrise Church, 6701 NE Campus Dr, Hillsboro. Space is limited, so RSVP today!

SPEAKERS

Featured speaker: Sean Jeralds is an assistant professor of aeronautical science at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona where he currently teaches aerodynamics, aircraft performance, and flight safety. He has been a chief flight instructor, a 135 pilot, and has won various safety and teaching awards. Sean was also part of the team that was awarded the Collier Trophy for ADS-B.

Guest Speaker: Curt Cowley grew up in an aviation family.  His father, an Army L-19 Bird Dog pilot, owned an F8F Bearcat and a Stearman in the late 50s. Curt joined the US Army as a UH-1 Huey Crew chief in 1983 and left in 1998 as the Director of Maintenance for the US Army’s fleet of Russian helicopters.  In 2009 he joined the FAA as an Airworthiness Aviation Safety Inspector, in 2015 he was selected as the Portland FSDO FAA Safety Team Program Manager.

Guest Speaker: Kelly Soule, a graduate of Hillsboro Aviation is currently a Principle Operations Inspector with the FAA.  She was also a flight instructor for Hillsboro Aviation, a 91 Lear jet pilot, a 135 King Air and Citation pilot.  Kelly is currently the POI for Hillsboro Aero Academy and has regular contact with HAA staff and students.

Guest Speaker: BJ Miles has served the last four years with the Life Flight Network (LFN) as the Director of Safety and Risk Management.  Previously BJ spent four years flying the AW119Kx for LFN as an EMS pilot.  BJ has also spent 10 years as a pilot for the USCG flying Dolphin helicopters in Alaska and Los Angeles.  During his time with the USCG, he served four years as the Aviation Safety Officer and was named the USCG ASO of the year in 2009.  BJ holds an A&P Mechanics license with five years of experience working on the C-130.  He is also holds a CFII, an ASEL Commercial certificate, and an ATP RW certificate.
