Demand for professionally-trained airplane pilots is growing at a remarkable rate. The 2016 Boeing Pilot and Technician Outlook estimates the airline industry will need an additional 558,000 commercial airline pilots over the next 20 years. This demand is forcing airline operators to develop creative solutions to attract more prospective pilots to the aviation industry.
One of these operators, Horizon Air, has partnered with Hillsboro Aero Academy (HAA) on a unique recruitment program targeted at aspiring pilots. This pilot development program provides a tuition scholarship to students pursuing an aviation career. Horizon Air will award this scholarship to eligible HAA students who have their Commercial Pilot Certificate to assist with their continued training. Recipients of this scholarship will also receive a conditional job offer from Horizon.
HAA has also allocated $143,000 toward funding advanced certifications for its students providing them the opportunity to receive additional specialized training.
