A recent study commissioned by Helicopter Foundation International (HFI) and the University of North Dakota (UND) forecasted the U.S. supply of helicopter pilot and mechanics over the next 18 years, and the results confirmed what many in the industry suspected. The study projects a shortage of 7,649 helicopter pilots and 40,613 mechanics in the United States between now and 2036. These results emphasize the need for some dramatic changes in outreach, scholarships, and access to financing to address the shortage of qualified pilots and mechanics facing the helicopter industry.
HFI is making the study results available to the public.
